FCP (First Contentful Paint) measures the delay between when the page starts loading and when the first content element (text, image, canvas) appears on screen. It's the first thing the user sees. Different from LCP which measures the largest element. Google thresholds: < 1.8 s = excellent, 1.8–3 s = needs improvement, > 3 s = poor.
Real-world impact of "FCP — First Contentful Paint"
A slow FCP creates a "blank page" impression and pushes users to leave before the page even loads. It's often caused by CSS or fonts blocking rendering. A fast FCP improves the perception of performance, even if the page continues to load afterwards.
